Slovenian-based Pipistrel has been building a motorglider for more than 10 years, but now they’re offering an upgraded self-launching electric version, complete with a solar charging trailer option. Here’s an AVweb news brief on how the system works.

    Just a few minutes to get to altitude, then stow it.

    Clean, low maintenance, and operationally simple.

    In a glider, for the most part you are not going anywhere so the very limited range of electric propulsion is not a factor. Also time aloft is predicated on skill and lift, the engine does not matter once aloft.

    Just save a few amps in case you are coming up short…
