Nashville’s John C. Tune Airport (JWN) sustained significant damage from a tornado associated with severe storms that killed at least 22 people and injured approximately 150 more in central Tennessee early Tuesday morning. While the extent of the damage is not yet known, airport personnel have said that JWN’s hangars, terminal, fuel trucks, power lines and a number of aircraft were all affected. No injuries were reported at the airport. A NOTAM is in effect closing JWN until March 10.

“The team … will rebuild our sister airport John C. Tune,” Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority President and CEO Doug Kreulen said via Twitter. “We can replace hangars and airplanes. Thankful no one was injured.”

The National Weather service stated that at least one EF-3 tornado touched down in the Nashville area. There have also been reports of damaged aircraft at Lebanon Municipal Airport (M54) in Lebanon, Tennessee. Nashville International Airport (BNA) remained open and officials have said that inspections uncovered no apparent storm damage.

  1. “We can replace hangars and airplanes. Thankful no one was injured.” That is all that needed to be said. As long as no one was hurt, all will be well.
